How effective is the Dukan diet plan

Dukan diet plan will help you to decide if you want to go ahead with dukan diet. First and foremost this dukan diet is based on intake of food rich in protein and protein only, at least in the first phase. This can be achieved through a variety of food allowed in this plan such as, lean meat, beef except the rib part, eggs, sea food and low fat (less than 5% fat) dairy products. Now this looks perfect for people who are non-vegetarian. With little bit of browsing and a little bit of creativity you would end up with lot of awesome recipes which can help you sail through the cravings for your carbs.

But what if you are a vegetarian? Well, in that case your choice of food especially in the first phase, called the attack phase is limited. Honestly, being a vegetarian myself, I’m doubtful about it. But looking in a different perspective, this phase would last for a max of 10 days and not for a month, so that is bearable. And it’s said that if you can make it to the third day then rest is going to be easy to stick with. But regarding the food that you are allowed being a vegetarian is limited and you must be ready to face the phase.

The dukan diet plan helps you to view both sides of the coin - there are lot of pros and cons in following this diet. The pros being that lot of people have vouched for it, that it has helped them in losing a lot of weight. How far they are able to carry on, especially considering that this particular diet is supposed to help you through out your lifetime, only time can say. It is also cost effective and simple to follow. But as mentioned above it’s difficult to say so with regard to the vegetarians. The protein would help you remain with the feeling of fullness. And the best part of this dieting is it allows you to indulge in all the things you have sacrificed before, during the later stages of the diet plan. Now that sounds really interesting right?

Now for the cons. It’s a restrictive diet since it focus on protein, especially in the first phase, and it’s known that restrictive diets are not healthy. It could lead to lot of side effects like fatigue, bad breath, and also increases the cholesterol and uric acid levels in the body. It could lead to constipation or diarrhea especially in the first phase because of the protein-only food intake. There are other risks as well such as, it is considered not quite good for the kidneys if the diet is continued for a longer duration.

Although it has both its positive and negative side, it’s up to you if you want to follow the dukan diet plan. If you are for it, its advised that you first consult your physician especially if you have a history of cholestrol or kidney related issues.
